ABOUT THE INN
Enjoy one of the most spectacular views on the Mendocino coast. Nestled in peaceful seclusion atop a bluff overlooking a mile of dramatic beachfront, the Elk Cove Inn’s Craftsman-style Mansion was built in 1883 by the L.E. White Lumber Co. as the Mill Superintendent’s home. It became one of the first bed & breakfast inns on the Mendocino Coast in 1968. The inn is set back from the road, surrounded by native trees, a creek and the ocean, with private stairs to the driftwood-strewn beach below.
Slip into a luxuriously cozy bathrobe. Fluff up your hair. Put up your feet. Enjoy every moment of your interlude at Elk Cove Inn. We offer lavish bath amenities, exquisite linens, cozy relaxing chairs. Savor a full breakfast each morning. Stroll down to the mile-long beach, or through the local village. Above all, make it yours. Make it last. Let everything else go.
When you first arrive in the placid little town, sitting snugly atop its ocean cliffs and looking out upon a dazzling sea bejeweled by immense rocks called “sea stacks,” it is difficult to imagine its 140 year history. Most people who discover the Elk Cove Inn & Spa expect to be surrounded by the natural beauty of the ocean and rugged coastal headlands and to relax and regain their smiles. “Life is But a Dream at Elk Cove Inn. We cannot say enough good things about our experience. AND our dog, Luna, was also treated like a princess. The room was cozy and even our shower had a spectacular view of the ocean. The owner is gracious and gave us a wonderful deal mid-week. We will make this a yearly trip now.” - Arnold C.
“PERFECT LOCATION. This was our first trip to north California. There couldn’t possibly be a more beautiful, serene, place to stay. Wonderful hosts, amazing food, incredible views. You can even walk to the beach. Perfectly situated for day trips. Don’t hesitate book now!!!!!” - Kelly R.
"Wonderful! What a place. Rooms overlooking the ocean, gorgeous wood and amenities. A welcome basket even! Walk to the gorgeous beach right from the Inn. My risotto had locally-harvested mushrooms, and greens grown in the onsite garden. My breakfast had eggs from the in-house chickens. Everyone was kind and helpful. There is so much to do in the area, you must go and see for yourself!" - Laura S.
